There is a lot of time wasted within public schools just in moving around the school and settling children.Of course children who disrupt the class use up valuable learning time.Then there is registration time and any other times that class is interupted or there are changes due to staff sickeness.My daughter found these disruptions to learning  most frustating when she went into public school hor her last years of schooling.When you sit and work out how much of the six or so hours of a school day are spent learning it works out at about 3 hours.This can change daily depending on school timetables.
Scheduling a timetable for formal work will be helpful even within the flexibility of homeschooling.This is particularly important if you are using a curriculum, because you will probably need to work through it at a particular pace.If you have a set period for study your children will get to know what that time is for and be in a good mindset to do the work.
Setting particular hours aside to learn can give structure to the child’s day. This is important for  children who like structure and routine.
As a homeschool family we used to set the mornings aside for structured learning; however, you could choose whatever time of day works best for your family.
The younger your child the less time they will spend studying each day.A young child will not need as much tie set aside as a teenager.The subject your child is learning will also have an impact on how long you spend on it.Your child may find some subjects easier to grasp than others.You may find that you will need to sit down and work through a subject a few times in different ways until your child has grasped it..

Knowing your childs particular learning style will help. If you know this then you can structure lesson times in a particular way. Using worksheets helps consolidate your child’s learning.
For instance if your child is strggling to understand math then using activities such as playing shop using coins will help.

Homeschooling allows you to be creative when it comes to your child’s learning.There are many helpful learning programs on television these days.The library can be a great source of information  for learning.Field trips to the museum are great for specific learning opportunities.Visits to the store and bank can help your children to learn about using money and purchasing food.Don’t be afraid to ask local businesses if you can make an educational visit.Geography is a great subject to get inventive with learning,Why not set a day apart for a themed day. Find out about a countries food and cook meals based on this.
Spen a day learning about growing vegetables. Make this practicle by buying and planting seeds.
let the kids look after them and chart the seeds progress.
If you grow things like tomatoes, cress, peppers ets you could then make your own pizzas.
Hiomeschooling allows you to be quite inventive with the ways your children learn.

So, when our kids were young we found that they needed to spend betwwen one to three hours on formal learning.The need to write essays and do science experiments and so on meant that our older choldren needed to do longer homeschooling hours..
Homeschooling hours can be flexible dependent on thehomeschooling style and curriculum you choose.
